It was August the 3rd 2010 when I had my “moment”.
I’d been thinking for a good long while, years in fact, that I needed to do something about my weight, it was seriously getting out of control.
On the morning of the third I weighed myself and was quite shocked to see the scales say Twenty Two Stone Seven Pounds! Literally 318 pounds…
I had to sort this out ASAP.
So since then I’ve been trying my best to do something about it.
First of I joined Livestrong.com and started to use their most excellent “myplate” service which helps you to eat well and to see when your eating too much of something.
Now I have to admit I sometimes, even now, 8 month on am lazy and sporadically use it, but then I feel just the first few months helped me to focus on what I eat and now I think more before I eat.
I’ve always been fairly healthy I what I ate I just ate a little too much everyday. Years on I was getting way too fat.
Of course though eating alone is not the only thing I needed to change. I’ve never been very active or had any real love for any sport that didn’t involve an engine.
That is apart from Cycling…
When I was a teenager I got really into cycling, I watched the Tour and had a bike I rode to school, I even used to go for fairly long rides occasionally with a friend, I was probably quite fit at the time.
I look back now and wonder what went wrong? Why did I loose my love of cycling? Well I remember I had a relatively small crash and hurt my arm, maybe that knocked the stuffing out of me? I also think that it was around that time that I discovered Alcohol!
So I lost touch with cycling and in doing so missed years and years of most excellent races, Indurain, Pantani, Armstrong, all missed…
In 2009 I watched a bit of the Tour De France but missed most of it. I didn’t really know much about any of the other races so it wasn’t untill last year 2010 that I actually realised just what I had been missing, cycling is flipping brilliant!
So back to the weightloss, as soon as the Tour had finished I knew what I had to do, get a bike and use it to get fit and thin!
I dug out the old exercise bike out of the shed and I started sweating
The real bike had to wait a while, I sold loads of stuff over Summer and by September I got my hands on a Mountain Bike. I was back on bike 16 years later!
Since then I’ve done about 800 miles and lost about 3 stone!
Now Jellyboots is my PS3 name, but I never did anything much with this site, it was meant to be about games, but I got a bit bored of posting stuff that 3000 other PS3 bloggers were as well.
Now I feel I can Use it for some good and talk about something I truly love and is actually changing my life for the better and not just getting me a few more worthless PS3 trophies.
Cycling is my new favourite fad, but a fad I can see lasting for the rest of my life.
I hope you like what I jibber about and if you do drop me a comment
Have fun!
